Russia’s Novatek may double Yamal LNG production to 35 mln tns
TOKYO, Nov 6 (PRIME) -- Independent Russian gas producer Novatek may double its liquefied natural gas (LNG) and gas condensate production capacities on the Yamal Peninsula to 35 million tonnes, CEO Leonid Mikhelson said at a conference Friday.
“Novatek’s resource base in the region allows it to at least double its capacities for production of LNG and gas condensate to 35 million tonnes,” Mikhelson said.
Novatek holds a 60% stake in the Yamal LNG project, which encompasses construction of an LNG plant with a capacity of 16.5 million tonnes on the basis of the Yuzhno-Tambeiskoye field. The total cost of the project is estimated at U.S. $26.9 billion. The plant’s first stage is expected to be launched in 2017.
